Barrack Urges Israel to Halt Syria Operations, Citing Nonaggression Pact Prospects

U.S. envoy Tom Barrack urged Israel to stop military operations in Syria at the Global Security Forum in Doha on Tuesday. He said Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was prepared to reach an understanding with Israel, potentially including a nonaggression pact, and expressed optimism about an agreement. Barrack also warned that Israeli and Turkish forces could be drawn into an unintended confrontation in Syria. His remarks described a diplomatic prospect, not a concluded agreement; Israel says its operations in Syria are intended to protect its security.
