Qatar Calls for Israeli Golan Withdrawal in UN Statement

Qatar called for Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights to the June 4, 1967 lines in a UN statement published by its official news agency on October 17. Mohammed Hassan Al Emadi, a third secretary at Qatar’s UN mission, addressed the General Assembly’s Second Committee in New York. He also urged implementation of Gaza ceasefire commitments, unhindered aid and reconstruction, citing Qatar’s mediation with Egypt and the United States. Israel applied its law, jurisdiction and administration to the Golan in 1981; its official account describes the area as strategically important to defending northern Israel.
