Golan Council Head Proposes Three-Step Syria Border Security Plan

Golan Regional Council head Uri Kelner has proposed a three-stage strategy for securing Israel’s border with Syria, beginning with closer ties to Syrian Druze, including allowing them to work in Israel. His plan also calls for a permanent Israeli military presence in the buffer zone and equipping Israeli border communities with weapons and ammunition as a forward defensive line. Kelner argues that economic ties could counter recruitment by Hezbollah or Iran. Katzrin council head Yehuda Dua also opposes withdrawal, while military sources say they have established no common link between the latest border suspects or a specific organization.
