Houthis Announce New Maritime Blockade on Saudi Arabia

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree in uniform before a Yemeni flag and wall map

Yemen's Houthi forces announced an immediate ban on Saudi maritime navigation, describing the measure as "blockade for blockade." Military spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi-owned vessels and ships sailing to Saudi Arabia would be targeted from the moment of the announcement. The group framed the move as retaliation for Saudi restrictions on Yemen's ports and airports and cited the recent strike on Sanaa International Airport against Yemen. The statement also declared full readiness for broader escalation if Saudi Arabia expands military action.
