Eisenkot Accuses Netanyahu of Deceiving Israelis, Praises Avi Gil

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an archival solo portrait of Gadi Eisenkot in a dark civilian jacket and open-collar light blue shirt against a plain background.

In a statement published October 8, Gadi Eisenkot accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deceiving Israelis, betraying public trust and endangering their security. He alleged that Netanyahu had dismissed warnings and that the prime minister’s circle sought an alternative account absolving him of responsibility while Gaza-border residents fought for their lives on October 7. Eisenkot condemned what he called an invented “betrayal theory” and praised retired major general Avi Gil for speaking out. He said the absence of a state commission of inquiry made silence impossible and pledged that one would be established, the truth revealed and conclusions implemented for Israel’s security.
