Ya’alon Says Former Security Chief Accepted Full Responsibility for October 7 Failure

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Moshe Ya’alon alone in glasses and a dark suit, based on an archival 2012 studio portrait; contextual portrait, not a depiction of the unnamed former security chief.

Moshe Ya’alon said on October 9 that an unnamed former security chief who served on October 7, 2023, told him he accepted full responsibility for the failure. Ya’alon said the conversation took place recently and quoted the official as accepting “100 percent responsibility” without qualification. He praised that acknowledgment while arguing that each security chief bore responsibility for his own failures and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bore overall responsibility. Ya’alon also accused Netanyahu’s policy toward Hamas and handling of warnings of contributing to the failure, and called for replacing Netanyahu and his government.
