Katz Seeks Home Front Emergency Extension Through November 3

Defense Minister Israel Katz has requested an extension of Israel’s nationwide special home-front emergency status until November 3, with ministers due to consider the proposal in an urgent telephone vote on Thursday. The existing declaration is due to expire on October 20. The proposal cites a security assessment that civilians still face a high likelihood of attack, particularly amid uncertainty concerning Iran and Lebanon. An extension would also require approval from the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The declaration enables Home Front Command to restrict activities such as schooling and gatherings, although no such restrictions are currently in force.
