U.S. Officials Reportedly Weigh MOAB Bomb in New Iran Strike Plans

U.S. officials familiar with military discussions say contingency plans for Iran could include the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, known as MOAB, against energy infrastructure or nuclear facilities. One scenario reportedly concerns Pickaxe Mountain, where U.S. and Israeli assessments place components of Iran’s nuclear program. President Donald Trump would have to authorize any operation, with options discussed for before or after the U.S. midterm elections. Sources questioned whether the weapon could penetrate deeply buried sites. The White House declined to discuss sensitive plans, while the Pentagon said it prepares operational scenarios.
