Ashdod’s Shhakim Pupils Present Community Projects Inspired by Fallen Israelis

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Hanevi'im pedestrian area in Ashdod, based on a February 2024 view; city context, not Shhakim school or the pupils' presentation.

Pupils at Ashdod’s Shhakim school presented community projects on October 7 as part of a hackathon commemorating fallen Israelis. Teams studied the lives, interests and values of the people they chose to honor, then developed social, technological and community initiatives inspired by them. The proposals included volunteering, support for people in need, community resilience and connections across Israeli society; Iris Cohen, mother of fallen soldier Omri Cohen, attended the presentation of a project honoring her son. The school intends to take the projects into the community, but no implementation timetable was reported.
