Syria is considering military assistance for Saudi Arabia, according to a U.S. official and a Syrian military official briefed on the matter. Options under discussion include helping protect Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks or sending Syrian forces to assist Saudi-backed Yemeni troops fighting the Houthis. President Ahmed al-Sharaa is seeking to demonstrate support for Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who helped his government gain international legitimacy. The report describes deliberations and does not announce a decision to deploy troops.
