Election Committee Prepares Emergency Options to Extend Voting
Published
The Central Elections Committee is preparing contingency options for longer voting hours or an additional voting day if a security emergency disrupts the election, according to newly disclosed preparations. Regional committees have been instructed to check protected spaces at polling premises, directional signs and arrangements for conveying emergency instructions to voters. Police have also begun rehearsing an election during wartime, with at least one exercise held earlier this week. The committee said it prepares for emergencies so voting can proceed under the law, including mapping protected spaces and security measures. No additional voting day has been ordered.
