Zamir Reportedly Cancels Planned U.S. Visit Amid Heightened IDF Alert

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has canceled a U.S. visit planned for about a week and a half later, according to a disclosure on September 30. The trip included Washington meetings and talks with the U.S. Central Command commander and Joint Chiefs chairman about cooperation on Iran and other threats. Zamir told his hosts that heightened IDF alert across all fronts made it inappropriate to leave Israel and manage developments remotely. An unnamed senior IDF official linked the cancellation to the increased alert. The decision preceded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's September 29 warning about possible attacks before elections.
