Danon Compares October 7 Protests to Praising Al-Qaeda on 9/11

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an archival exterior view of the United Nations Secretariat tower and Dag Hammarskjold Library in New York, used as context for Danon’s role as Israel’s ambassador to the UN

Israel’s U.N. representative Danny Danon used a September 11 analogy to criticize demonstrations on the October 7 anniversary. In an English-language X post published at 6:06 a.m. Israel time on October 8, he imagined protesters taking to New York’s streets against America while praising al-Qaeda terrorists on the September 11 anniversary. He called that scenario “the absurdity that we are witnessing on the anniversary of October 7.” Danon began his second term as Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations in August 2024.
