Huckabee Rejects Report of U.S. Push for Netanyahu–Eisenkot Unity Government

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee denied on October 15 that the Trump administration was pushing for a unity government involving Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud and Gadi Eisenkot’s party. He was responding to a post describing a proposal under which Netanyahu would remain prime minister for up to two years before leaving politics. Huckabee rejected that account, denied that the U.S. government was manipulating Israel’s election or telling Netanyahu what to do, and asked for the report to be retracted. His statement did not announce any coalition agreement or negotiations.
