U.S. Identifies Soldier Killed Disarming Iranian Drone in Iraq
The U.S. military identified Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, as the soldier killed during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian one-way attack drone at Erbil Air Base in Iraq on July 19. The Army said the incident remains under investigation. Swinton served with D Battery, 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bragg. He will receive the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge and be posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.
