Former Official Says Aviation-Security Center Upgrade Push Dates Back Five Years

An unnamed former senior Transport Ministry official said division head Avraham Cohen had sought to upgrade Israel's aviation-security operations center for at least five years. He alleged that management meetings had not convened for four years and that discussions about transferring the center to the Shin Bet or Mossad had produced no outcome. The center, which checks flights entering Israeli airspace, operates in Beit Dagan. The ministry said security bodies approved its procedures and that it still supports a national aviation-security authority, whose establishment requires a government decision on powers and resources.
